Biography of Adetundji Tobi

Adetunji Tobi is 37 years old and was born in Orile Owu of the Ogun State (one of thirty six states) in Nigeria, West Africa.

Tobi basically taught himself painting. He has never been formally trained but has always since his childhood enjoyed observing people paint. His passion started as early as elementary school then continued in junior high school where he used to make portraits of teachers and fellow students in the school’s workshop.

After he finished with school, one of his brothers who had a craft shop asked him to give him a hand. While working with his brother he got exposed to the art and crafts of other people and realized that some people could live of their work.

Tobi then met a man who would give him a chance to unveil his talents and passion.

The man was a painter who would spend most of his time painting but needed someone to help him promote his paintings. Tobi who had some experience from working with his brother did an incredible job selling the paintings of that man. In exchange and for his appreciation, he encouraged Tobi to paint too without guessing his talent and that painting was his secret passion.

Tobi has been painting for more than 10 years, has accomplished his dream to live of his art and to be a full time painter. For many years he has learned by observing other painters but has now found his style that is still maturing. His house is his work shop and he paints in his backyard or in his living room.

A lot of what he paints comes from his imagination and does not always bear a concrete representation or signification. But he always finds inspiration in things as simple as a flower or a bird that he would represent with his flavor.

He uses acrylic and glue for the drawings and then applies the colors.

All his paintings are signed and unique since no prints are permitted.

He is married with 4 children (two pairs of twins)

Tobi is always grateful to God for the talent he was given.
