Frequently asked questions

  • Paintings

Are the paintings originals?

All paintings in oil on sack cloth are unique and originals. The painter has signed them and does not allow reproduction.

  • Batiks

What is a batik?

Batik paintings are created by brushing molten wax or yarn made resistant to dye. The cloth is dipped into, or painted with dye, which adheres to all the areas not covered by the wax. The wax is then removed and the process is repeated over and over again for each additional color used.

Who makes the batiks?

They are purchased either from individual artists  or from community workshops established by non governmental organizations or by the local government in  order to promote the local craftmanship. Young people use the facilities and the equipment available to create their own batiks. The workshop is under the supervision of an experienced artist and all the young artists share ideas and learn from each other.

  • Canoe Frames

How much weight a canoe frame?

The weight varies from 5 Lb for the smallest to 10 Lb for the largest canoe frames.

How to hang a canoe frame?

You can use two right angles hooks ( available at Home Depot) and have the width of the canoe sit ont the hook's longest part. Hooks and anchors are a much safer system than nails however hooks are visible and may look unattractive for some. Make sure that whatever system you are using can overtime hold the weight of your canoe frame.

What kind of glass should I used?

The thickness of the glass that fits perfectly the canoe frame is 1/8" and you will need two of them. The lenght of the glass will depend on the size of your batik (picture or document) and the lenght of rope of your canoe. Take your canoe with you to the glass store for precaution.
